For a variety of reasons, many people are do-it-yourselfers – to save costs, they enjoy it, etc. Pest control is one of those areas where the availability of chemicals at stores, makes it easy to take matters into your own hands. But the question is – when should you DIY or when should you call in a professional?
When should you use DIY pest control?
When you buy pest control products in the store, most of the directions on them are to use the chemicals directly on the bug. For additional protection, they might suggest also spraying entryways – such as doors and windows. If the situation are one off occurrences, like a single roach, a single spider, a random wasp – sure these products work great.
However, they are only temporary solutions. Some of these products you can buy in store claim they can last but really they only last for a little while and will need to be applied again and again, costing homeowners or tenants more time and even more money.
So when should you call in a professional?
It might seem like the only time you really call in a professional is when you have an infestation – suddenly your house is overrun by ants or roaches, you unfortunately got bed bugs or a huge wasp nest is outside. Stuff you don’t want to handle or don’t know how to, you’ll go online to find a pest control company or ask a friend who they use and get a quote.
So the technician will come out, do a one time treatment and hopefully solve the issue. The problem is, we live in Florida – there will never not be pest issues in homes. And the best solution is taking preventive measures versus reactive by signing up for pest control services.
With preventative pest control treatments, you’re taking care of the issue before it happens – saving yourself time, money and a lot of stress in the long run.
